Parent Portal Implemented in NERIC District

Galway Central School District, Galway, NY – Parental involvement in their child’s education always has a positive effect on a child’s educational experience. Academic achievement soars when communication between teachers, administrators and parents is available. Galway Central School is the first NERIC District to implement Century Consultants Parent Portal. The portal allows parents to view student attendance, progress reports, report cards, and most importantly homework assignments. It also contains teacher e-mail links allowing for easy interaction between school and home.

The portal includes a full featured teacher profile containing all of the necessary functions teachers perform during the course of a day. This includes posting of both daily and class attendance, posting progress reports, grade reporting, and an extensive teacher gradebook. Access to specific student data is also available; i.e. Parent contact information including telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.

The Galway teachers embraced the portal posting and gradebook capabilities and since the system has been deployed the amount of phone calls from parents has been considerably reduced. Paul Jenkins, the High School Principal has spear headed the project and has this to say, “Parents have raved about the Parent Portal all year. They find it very easy to navigate and like the fact that they can have informed conversations with both their children and the teachers. I have even had students comment on the fact that they appreciate the ability to view their own grades on-line; it has even led to some grading mistakes being caught prior to report cards being printed. The Teacher Portal is very user friendly and has made my teachers’ lives much easier by having everything together on one screen. Both Century Consultants and NERIC have supplied amazing support throughout the start up process and Century Consultants has done a fantastic job upgrading this product. It has truly enhanced the overall communication between school and home while at the same time decreasing the amount of time teachers spend outside of classroom contacting parents.”
