Pleasantville School District
Teams with Century Consultants
for Abbott District State Reporting
Century's Star_Base School
Suite and Star_Insight have
simplified the reporting process for the Pleasantville
School District
Lakewood, NJ (October 19, 2007)
- Many States provide extra funds for educating students
who are considered at-risk because of their economic deficiency.
In New Jersey these schools are known as "Abbott
Districts". Abbott Districts are school districts
included in the New Jersey Supreme Court ruling which
found that urban students in "special needs districts"
were not receiving an adequate or constitutional education.
The method in which aid is calculated is established by
individual states.
The number of students eligible for the federally sponsored
Free and Reduced Lunch program is usually part of the
formula, although some states award a flat grant while
other states apply a weight to at-risk per-pupil counts.
In the event that a district is classified in this manner,
eligibility criteria must be met and supplementary reports
are required by the State to maintain funding. This extra
reporting can overwhelm the technical and administrative
staff. Pleasantville School District has found a solution
to this dilemma; Star_Base School Suite, in tandem with
the Star_Insight feature of the suite.
Pleasantville School District is an Abbott District located
adjacent to Atlantic City in southern New Jersey. The
district has approximately 4,000 students and has been
a Century Consultants customer since 1986. Pleasantville
has always been a progressive district and was one of
the first to use Star_Insight, a new data driven decision
tool offered by Century Consultants. This application
enables the end user to analyze multiple dimensions of
data, and to display, report, or export instantaneously
from Star_Base School Suite, Century's Student Information
Software.
Initially purchased to analyze trends relating to grades
and attendance, Star_Insight also proven invaluable in
other capacities, specifically state reporting. "We
use Star_Base School Suite along with Star Insight to
assist in accessing data for the following state reports,
the ASSA, The School Report Card, NJSMART, The Fall Survey,
The School Register, The CRDC Report and the monthly reports
to administrators. This tool has allowed me to process
reports in half the time and with more accuracy. When
coworkers request data for our student ID company, yearbook
company, etc., I use Star_Insight because it is easier
to save in Excel and simplifies tasks for the end user,
sorting and formatting data to fit their needs. Star Insight
has been a lifesaver for me as the database coordinator,
enabling me to complete requests in a timely manner. Star_Insight
technical support has been excellent and dependable"
Sandra Anderson, District Database Coordinator, Pleasantville
School District.
